CAPs Vetting Process: Prospects, Donors, Sponsors and Hosts

Background
Anchored in the work of the Ad Hoc Faculty Committee on Guidelines for Outside Engagements and the Ad Hoc Committee to Review MIT Gift Processes, MIT has asked that all MIT faculty and staff involved in gift conversations and outside engagements consider the questions in the MIT Guidelines for Outside Engagements (the “Tool”) in order to assess these engagements.
CAPs Process
Funds coming into CAPs originate from the categories below:
- Individual and foundation program donors (sponsored and non-sponsored)
- Companies and other entities that: contribute funds to CAPs programs as reimbursements or sponsorships; contribute funds directly to students; or only host students.
Program donors
Donors that are in Advance have already been vetted. For any donors/prospects that give over $50K and are not in Advance, managers should connect with RD staff in order to get the prospect vetted. Managers should be aware that the vetting process takes 6 to 8 weeks.
Contributions from sponsors or hosts (paying or non-paying)
Managers should assess the entity based on the MIT Tool initially using a google search. If needed the resources below may also be used. For hosts, this assessment should be noted in Salesforce.
