New MISTI Application System (2025)

Please find a PDF of this article, including screenshots, located here.

Starting in September 2025, MISTI will launch a new system to manage student applications. Students will log in through a new online portal to submit their applications. All submissions will be automatically recorded in Airtable, where managers will be able to review applications and proceed with placements

The new system will be used for internships and study abroad programs starting in September 2025. IAP programs will transition to the new system in September 2026.

Below is an overview of how the new system works:

  1. Student Portal – The portal is built using Softr, and students will log in using MIT Touchstone authentication. Once logged in, students will:
    • Be prompted to complete their demographic and academic information
    • Be directed to the Applications page
    • Select a program and complete the associated questionnaire and required documents

All application data will be linked to the student’s profile in Airtable.

From the home page, students will be able to view their submitted applications, but won’t be able to make edits.

2. Airtable – Reviewing Applications  – Managers will continue using the Airtable base they are familiar with for placements. The base will now include three main pages:

  • Applications
  • Placements
  • Internship Reports

On the Applications page:

  • The list view shows all applicants who selected your country or region as one of their preferences
  • You can group, sort or filter for the fields shown.
  • Clicking on a student’s name opens the full application record
  • You can review responses and add interview notes in the provided fields
  • If the student has been teacuped, the information will be shown below the “interview” text box.

At the bottom of each application, in the Selection Decision section:

  • When you select a confirmed MISTI program and set the status to “Placed,” a button labeled Create Placement will appear
  • Clicking this button will generate a new placement in the Placements page

Note: You will still need to review and complete the placement record after it is created.

3. Searching for Applications – If you need to find a specific student, view applications to other programs, or filter for certain criteria:

  • Go to the Search and Queries section
  • Open the Applications page
  • Use filters, sorting, or grouping options to customize your search

This allows you to quickly find relevant applications, compare across programs, or track status.
